Don't go hungry to a screening of Julie & Julia, popcorn isn't going to satisfy. Better to have something tasty and then go see it. I first went to Central Market -- the lovely high-end grocery chain so decadent, the produce is styled on pyramids of crushed ice. The lighting is low, the aisles are wide, and it is just a hugely pleasant place to be. My joke about Central Market is that when I first went in, "I heard angels singing."
I treated myself to a pre-movie salmon, arugula and dill sandwich on ciabatta so that I wouldn't have any food needs for the length of the film. It worked.
It is so sweet that 40 years after Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking book was published, the book has had a huge resurgence of interest. If there's a heaven above, Julia's surely whisking up froth in the clouds. Here she is with a 30-second omelette from an episode of the French Chef.
Tonight is my second rock outing in the 8 weeks I've lived in the live music capital of the world. Now that Estro is well enough to be alone at length, I am getting myself out more, and it's great.
We're heading out to see Daniel Ash DJ and my friends Ian and Matt play. It's also a listening party for the new Love and Rockets tribute record "New Tales to Tell" and I can't wait!
We're also be serving up delicious Batter Blaster at this party and I'll be making pancakes in the shapes of hearts and rockets. Shepard Fairey did the album cover and also the fabulous, infamous Obama posters.
And lastly, check out the video of Batter Blaster that showed up on Seth's Blog, the 14th most popular blog at the moment, after Gawker and before Blog. It's huge.
